Tyler Walks

Just within the last month, Tyler has really become mobile. He's everywhere and into everything. We've got the baby gates up, plugs in the outlets, and lots of items moved up off the ground. Still, Tyler seems to find lots of things to get his hands onto. His favorites are the tupperware drawer and my basket of fingernail polish. I've made the mistake 3 times- yes, that's 3 times(!!) of allowing him to play with a "child-proof" vitamin bottle, only to find he's somehow opened the bottle and has vitamins everywhere. The last time, I had to fish 2 out of his mouth. Yes, I freaked out and think I've finally learned my lesson.

This is a fun age I think. You can help but giggle at the way he walks (see video below) and you can easily break into a smile yourself when you see his big grin. Tyler will bring you a book then turn around and sit in your lap while you read it to him. How sweet. Of course, if I have to read Peak a boo I Love You one more time, I may just have to unintentionally loose the book. Eating dinner is a different story. Although he seems to eat everything and anything in sight at daycare, at home with Mommy and Daddy, it's a whole different ballgame. Some days he likes bananas and some days he doesn't. Sometimes he likes blueberries and sometimes he doesn't. We've had the hardest time getting him to eat vegetables. Graham crackers are our standby. Luckily though, we've had a fairly decent transition from the bottle to the sippy cup.

We went for Tyler's one-year checkup last week and he seems to be right on schedule. A little disproportionate though- below the chart for height, above the chart for head size and 50% for weight. Because his head is so big, his doctor wants us to have an ultrasound. We go for that tomorrow... will keep everyone posted.

Celebrating One Year Old!

Weighing in at 22 pounds and 7 ounces is our fabulous birthday boy, Tyler! We've had quite a first year together and I think we all need a pat on the back for making it through. Here's a quick re-cap:
After 18 hours of labor and subsequent C-Section, Tyler is born on May 23rd, 2010
Leslie cries practically everyday for the first 3 weeks secondary to pain from the C-section, no sleep, and trying to figure out nursing
Family and friends come to the rescue and help us through the first few months
Tyler starts daycare, Mommy goes back to work and school, and Daddy continues to manage the house/cook dinners/walk the dog
Tyler gets his first tooth and Mommy cries cause she feels like she's missing everything while he's at daycare
The swing becomes our best friend
Mommy's milk dries up in late November due to a crazy schedule and not being able to nurse/pump as frequently as needed- Mommy cries again due to feelings of inadequacies
Tyler starts crawling and becomes lots of fun
Tyler starts sleeping from 7:30 to 5 (sometimes 6!) and Mommy and Daddy feel like they have some resemblance of normalcy back in their lives
The Tar Heels have a horrible basketball year leading to much frustration to all
Tyler and Connor become good friends
Daddy and Mommy (well, Mommy sort of) run in a 10 mile race in April
Tyler turns 1 year old and Mommy and Daddy look back over the year and think it went by too fast and how could they possibly have a one year-old child? Despite not remembering too much of the first 3 months due to sleep deprivation, Mommy and Daddy have realized that it was the best year of their lives, it was the hardest year of their lives, and they wouldn't change a thing. Except maybe have less poopy pants....

Here are some pics from the birthday bash:
